If you are often late for work, you may worry that your animal is suffering because it is not getting fed at the appropriate time. You may want the freedom of being able to go away for a few nights and leave your cat alone in the house.

It can be tempting to resolve this situation by just leaving extra food out. However, animals tend to eat what is there as soon as it appears. It is a natural reaction for them to eat as much as they can when they have the opportunity to as in the wild they will not know when their next meal is coming along. Of course, if they eat all the food very quickly, then they will have very little left for when it is the time for their normal feed.

Of course, you could ask a friend of neighbour to feed them for you. However, this may not always be possible or convenient and so there is a better solution. You can buy a pet feeder that automatically opens at the time you set on it. Therefore, you place the food inside and set the clock. You put in the time that you would like the container to open and it will then feed the animal at the right time. If it is for several mealtimes that you will be away, then you could have several feeders with different timers on.

Obviously, it is not always easy to predict whether you are likely to be late from work. If it is something which happens regularly, then you could set one up every day, just in case. If you are home early, then you could still just leave it to go off as programmed and the food will not be wasted.

It is a great way of caring for your animal when you are not in the house.
