Rottweilers have a very bad reputation among the public, but most of the information you hear is just recycled stories. I”m here to give you first hand information from a person who owns not one but two rottweilers! Here are just a few reasons I love them and why you may too.

Lets begin with how people perceive rottweilers. Normally when you bring up a rottweiler in a conversation the other person immediately imagines a vicious dog. This isn’t always true. Any dog can become vicious. This is normally due to terrible, violent owners who train their dogs to be vicious by acting aggressive with them. They will also starve their dogs in order to teach obedience and killing (small animals). I however am not a bad owner and love my rottweilers as if they were my own children.

I feed them properly three times a day and give them plenty of exercise. I took them to classes to help me get them trained. They play with me and I them. Sometimes it can get a bit rough and if they do get a bit rough I simply put my hands over their mouths. A sign that they have gone too far. Rottweilers aren’t vicious they just need to be trained and loved. My rottweilers immediately stop and sit once they feel and see a hand is over their mouths.

The size of your dogs are going to be large. Rottweilers have a tendency to be big, loving animals. So prepare yourself for 3 half hour walks daily with 3 daily feedings. They eat a lot! The good news is you’ll get plenty of exercise as well. The rottweiler size comes in handy too. They scare most people away immediately so danger isn’t a problem for them. They will bare teeth at intruders but are unlikely to attack depending on the scenario. So they do make great guard dogs.

Speaking of guarding they are very loyal. When a rottweiler is properly trained they will not leave your side when someone else calls them. They can be trained to not eat anything from anyone unless its you as well. They listen and obey your commands without hesitation. Now that is one loyal dog! Please keep in mind that this will not happy just out of gate. You have to get your rottweilers trained!

Rottweilers aren’t vicious animals without a brain. They are loving, loyal guard dogs that can be played with and loved. You just have to provide the training that they need along with the daily exercises and meals. It really isn’t hard to fall in love with these beautiful dogs, give them a chance

It doesn’t come as a surprise to many when their dogs don’t understand why they have to swallow that awful tasting medicine. Think about it from a dogs perspective. You want them to eat something that tastes awful. They don’t know why. They just know that it tastes awful. If you have to eat something that tasted awful but didn’t know why, would you?

Instead of struggling with your pet to take their medication make it easier on yourself. Learn how to get your dog to take their medication and like it!

Over Hyper Dogs

Some dogs just love to eat and eat. Once that food bowl is placed in front of them they chow down and devour the entire filling within minutes. If your dog is like this, getting them take their pill will be simple. You just have to place the pill into the food bowl. Alternatively you could also add a can of wet food. Be sure to check the food bowl afterwards. You wouldn’t the dog not ending up taking their pill after all that.

I’ll Eat Anything Dog

Some dogs will eat just about anything. Taking the pill and inserting into a hot dog or wrapping it around a piece of cheese may be your best bet. Most dogs won’t even noticed you tricked them. They’ll just be happy you gave them a treat. While you can have the satisfaction of them being happy and healthy.

The Dog That Can’t Eat Hard Food

Not all dogs are created equal. Some dogs have a hard time eating hard food. If your best friend isn’t able to eat hard food, soften it up for him! You can do this buy purchasing a can of wet food and letting the pill “marinate” in the sauce. This should weaken the chemical structure. Making it softer but still effective once eaten.

Use It As A Treat

This will only work if your dog is accustom to you giving them treats for good behavior. Try to use the pill as a treat instead of something they wouldn’t like. You’re taking a different approach, sure, but your dog won’t know the difference if they swallow it up without thinking.

Grind It Up

Sometimes a dog just won’t swallow the pill. If your dog absolutely refuses to swallow the pill you do have a one more choice, grinding it up. Now not all pills can be grinded up so be sure to ask your vet about this before you do it. If you get the okay, then use a spoon or another hard rolling material to grind it up and insert within in their food.

I know how painful it can be to have get your dog to take that unsavory medicine pill. So I wish you luck. If you get the chance to buy a liquid medicine, I recommend you jump on it.

Contrary to what many people say about the chihuahua they make great pets. If you’re ready to get that first dog, or you just want to give the joy of a pet to your children. A chihuahua may not be a bad idea. Here’s why.

One

A chihuahua in one year is the equivalent to a 15 year old child. Some dogs take a few years to begin to mature and slowdown. The chihuahua doesn’t have that problem, and thats just one of the best reasons to purchase this lovely dog for your children.

Two

Time and time again people have to put their dog’s down because due to obesity. This normally happens after a few years of improper diets and fitness routines. Leading to emotional devastation for both you and your children for some time. This wouldn’t have to happen if you owned a chihuahua. They rarely get fat due to their hyper activity and small size. They are simple dogs to walk and keep healthy. You just have to give them affection, a bit of playing time, and healthy foods (organic is best).

Three

The chihuahua is the smallest breed in the world. Considered by many pet owners to be the cutest species around. This belief isn’t held by everyone but most who make a purchase end up loving them more then they thought they could.

Four

Chihuahua get along with one another much better then they do with other breeds. So buying one or two isn’t a bad idea. Just remember that the younger they are the more they will like each other. It can be difficult to break in a new family member if one of your chihuahuas has already spent a year or two alone with your family.

Five

The Chihuahua breed much easier and the result are many. You could make your next best friend have a baby or ten as most chihuahuas can have up to 10 in a litter, then sell them. Not everyone wants to breed but you could consider it if the market is open, and you have both sexes that are pure.

Six

Chihuahuas are the smallest dogs in the world. So if you’re into a cute and cuddly type of animal a chihuahua will fit the bill!

Seven

When you look at the number of dogs most owned in the world you’ll find the chihuahua in tenth place! Now thats a popular dog!

Everyday someone is bringing home a chihuahua to make their best friend, or bestow it on their children who will do just that. Why not pickup your chihuahua today?

There’s a good chance that you are reading this because you are a puppy owner, or plan on becoming one in the near future. With everything in life there are a few things that you should always know about your new puppy. Lets get started.

Greeting

When a puppy is first born they won’t be able to see. It takes about a week before they open their eyes. So their blind for the first few days. Be very careful with your puppy during this early stage in their life. A puppy should be greeted first by using their sense. Let them smell you and get to know your scent and touch. Over time they’ll recognize that first. Once their eyes are open they’ll begin to know you by sight as well. It takes a bit longer for your puppy to develop their hearing. So touch, smell, and sight will be the first ways of greeting and communicating with your new puppy.

Discipline

People tend to bend and mutiliate this word. They take it out of context and many totally discipline their dogs in unfashionable ways. If you want your pet to learn, but want to be nice doing it lets switch that word out for survival. You see a dog is domestic animal but doesn’t know that himself. To your new puppy its just a way of life but you have to teach them to survive. Teaching them to heel, sit, stay isn’t a trick but a survival method for them. When you look at it from a survival perspective they are much more easier to train. It also gives them the advantage of knowing they must perform this.

Schedule

I can’t stress enough about a schedule. If your dog doesn’t get on a eating schedule, their bathroom schedule will be all over the place. Set times during the day when your dog will eat and then use the restroom. In the long run it is much easier for you and your dog won’t have to worry about eating. They’ll know when and how they are going to eat.

Potty Training

Potty training is one hundred times easier when you have a schedule. This can take a bit of time for your dog to learn but once they grasp the concept they’ll always want to go outside to use the restroom. Don’t get angry or emotional when you first begin. This gives the dog mixed signals. Be patient and press on. Eventually they will learn!

Socialize Early With Dogs & Humans

Be very careful when you first begin to socialize your puppy with other dogs and humans. Remember that your puppy is trusting in you. They expect for you to have your best intentions for them. Don’t break their trust and always know the other dog and human before letting your puppy around them.

A new puppy can be a lot of fun. They love to play. They have plenty of energy and they can fill up any space with their love and playfulness. Becareful with them and treat them right and you’ll have a lifetime partner who will watch your back and love you.

Owning animals is very rewarding; they give their owners companionship and unconditional love. Responsibility is a large part of animal ownership; they have to be fed, watered, groomed and you need to keep them from harms way.

Owning animals can also be frustrating, especially if you have a puppy. Puppies chew, and generally destroy anything they can fit into their mouths! Have you ever locked a puppy in the bathroom only to open the door to an explosion of toilet paper? Usually the first reaction is anger, and then you have to laugh because he really does look cute sitting in the midst of all that paper.

However, he doesn’t look nearly as cute when he has torn up your clothes, one of the couch pillows, or all the cords to the computer. There is one simple solution that will help you keep your sanity, and keep your cute little guy safe.

Get a pet gate. Pet gates are basically the same as baby gates. They are adjustable in size so they will fit almost any doorway or opening that goes from room to room. These gates are very versatile, and they can be used for many applications.

Restrict your dog or puppy to (or from) an area of the home, separate the dog, (or puppy), and baby when you won’t be able to supervise. Place a pet gate in front of the screen doors to prevent the dog from scratching the screen. I have a gate in the doorway to the guest bedroom (it is now called the ‘cats room’). My cat gets sick and tired of the dogs barking and trying to play with her. Now she runs down the hall, scales the gate and is safe.

As you can see, the pet gate has many uses, and can save you a lot of frustration! The gates are fairly inexpensive, and are worth every penny of the price. Most people find them so useful that they will buy another one or two to use in the home.

If your pet is unwell, then it can be useful knowing how to care for them. In the same way that we can do first aid courses to learn how to help humans in emergency situations such as if they have fainted or are choking, it is good to have the same sort of information with regards to your pets.

Many people feel that their pets are part of their family and if they were in a situation where they needed to administer first aid on the animal and could not, then it is likely that they would feel very guilty about that.

If you are a first time pet owner, then it would be a good idea to ask your vet for help. Even simple things such as administering medication to your pet, could be alien to you and if they have any basic guides covering all aspects of pet care, then these could be useful to you. They should be able to tell you any common ailments that you might might be likely to suffer from and how to treat them. They will also be able to tell you when to tell if your pet is unwell enough to warrant a visit to the vet.

It would be a good idea to have a book at home with information about basic pet care, specific to your animal. Then you could have it to hand if you were in a situation where you needed to know what to do when your pet was unwell. You may also benefit from having a pet first aid kit in the house, so that you have everything you need, just in case. If you are not sure what sorts of things to put in it, talk to your vet or find a book with details. The contents may depend on whether your pet has any specific medical conditions.

It is great to always be prepared. If your animal is taken ill out of working hours then it could take quite a long time for a vet to get there. If you can do something to help your animal in the meantime then they will be more comfortable and you will be happier. You will also always have peace of mind, knowing that you have the knowledge to help your pet should they fall ill.

Reduce dog shedding with this great treatment.

Many people believe that homoeopathic medicine can work wonders for people and they therefore feel the same way about medication for their pets as well. There is quite a range of this type of medicine available these days.

It is important to remember that if pets have a medical condition then it is important to consult the vet before you give them any sort of treatment. In the same way that you would with a human, you have to be extremely careful about what you are putting in your body and how it might effect you. Despite being natural treatments, they can still have side effects and might even react with other medication that the animal might be on.

The vet will know exactly what is safe for your animal to take and what will work best with their condition and any medication they are on.

Many people do feel that homoeopathic remedies do not work. They worry that they have not been properly tested in a scientific environment. However, other people use them for their pets and say that they can see them making a big difference. Obviously it is hard to test whether this is true or not.

However, if you feel that your pet is better, whether that is due to the medication, your expectation, your perception or a placebo effect it does not really matter. If you are finding that it is making your animal seem more comfortable then perhaps it is something which you should continue with.

If you currently use homoeopathic medication and have not consulted your vet, it could be a good idea to mention it, even if your pet does seem better off taking it. They may be better off having a different dose, a different type or not having it and so just check and put your mind at rest.

There are certain pets which we often carry with us in the car. These are normally dogs. However, sometimes we also travel with smaller pets, perhaps if we are moving house of on a journey to the vets. It is important to make sure that the animals are properly secured in the car for both their and your safety.

A small animal should be placed in a suitable animal carrier which should be securely fastened. It would certainly not be sensible to let them be loose in the car as not only may they get lost, they may be very distracting to the driver or even get under the brake pedal. It may seem like a good idea to maybe have someone hold the animal in their lap, perhaps because the animal does not like being in an animal carrier. It could end up with dire consequences.

A dog can be quite a different matter. They come in so many sizes that there is not a carrier to really suit them, but there are other solutions. The safest way to carry a dog in the car is to have them in the back of an estate car behind an animal safety barrier. If you have no barrier then you can buy a special harness so that the dog is strapped down. It may seem a bit mean to exclude the dog from the main part of the car or to tie them down, however, it could save all of your lives. If you had to brake quickly then a lose dog could fly through the car and possibly kill one of the passengers or the driver and of course the animal would not survive either. It is worth being careful for the protection of all of you and your family.

Many people often only think of stair gates to be used for young children, to prevent them from getting access to dangerous places such as stairs or rooms with equipment in. However, there are a lot of good reasons for using gates when you have animals too. They may need to be protected in the same way as children, from dangerous areas but gates are also useful for other reasons.

One place which it can be nice to keep animal free is the kitchen. However much you care for your animal, no one likes animal hairs in their food and so by keeping them out of this room, there will not be this risk. Some animals may also be tempted to eat any food that might be left hanging around and so having a gate on the kitchen door can prevent this from happening. It may also be a way to prevent dogs from begging for scraps at the table, which some people find very unappealing.

If you have young children in the house it can be sensible to keep them apart form pets at times. This is because young children may not know how to treat an animal kindly and may just think it is a toy. This can be quite distressing to the pet and may make it behave uncharacteristically and so it is wise to keep them apart unless closely supervised.

Some people even use stair gates to prevent their animals getting to the bedrooms. It may seem mean to stop your animal being able to get access to certain parts of the house. But you have to remember that they are smaller than you and therefore need less room and as long as you spend time with them and look after them properly then there is no reason why you shouldn’t have some time apart.

We all know how important it is to have a plan in case of an emergency in the house. For example people should have a fire escape route planned should it be necessary. However, many people forget to include their pets in this escape plan.

For many people, their pets are like family members and so they would want to make sure that they were able to escape a house, should it be necessary for the family to evacuate it in an emergency. It is therefore important to make sure that there is a person responsible for the pet and they know exactly what to do.

If you have a cat then it could be a difficult challenge as it may be outside of the house anyway and it could be hiding. A dog is likely to follow you out of the house anyway, unless it is hurt and then you may have to find it. A caged animal will need to be picked up and taken outside.

The person responsible for the pet should be an adult and one who is likely to be logical in this sort of situation. They will need to be able to make a judgement as to whether it is safe to get the pet or better to just leave the house without it. It could be very difficult leaving a pet behind and potentially risking their life, but you may be putting yourself and others at risk if you do so. This is why it should not be someone very emotionally attached to the animal that is responsible for rescuing them. They may put their lives above the animals and this could be very hard on the rest of the family, should they make a misjudgement.

If you have some time to prepare to leave your property then make sure you take some supplies with you for your pet as well as for yourself.
